Bid Team Unveils Site Plans to BIE Members in the French Capital

22 May 2018 - Today the Baku bid team presented World Expo 2025 plans, in the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Azerbaijan, in Paris, to members of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). There were three presentations, including a fly though of the site.

Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Chief of Azerbaijan’s delegation to the BIE, led the event by presenting:

  • Why it’s the right time for Baku to host a World Expo; Azerbaijan’s growing expertise hosting global events; and Baku’s excellent visitor experience, cultural, historical, architectural and gastronomic.

Maryam Gafar-zada, Theme Leader for Vitality, focused on:

  • The overall theme, ‘Developing human capital, Building a better future,’ is timely and according to the recent report from the BIE, relevant to Azerbaijan’s recent experience and to the future of humanity. Three subthemes, closely aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, underpin it: Talent, the Future of Education; Vitality, the Future of Health; and Achievement, the Future of Work.

James Bulley, Expo 2025 Baku Masterplan lead & Executive Director at Trivandi, took the BIE members through:

  • Technical considerations, participant and VIP access, transport, logistics and how the planned integrated transport infrastructure will have the capacity to manage the predicted 18 million visits to Expo.

The city which will host World Expo 2025 will be elected at the 164th General Assembly of the BIE in November. If Baku is successful in its Bid, the World Expo will be held between May 10 and November 10 in 2025.
