World Expo 2025 Baku presents vision and plan at the African Union HQ

Baku’s candidacy to host World Expo 2025, along with Azerbaijan’s upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), were presented at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, in the context of Azerbaijan’s efforts on the African continent. 

Opening the event, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev spoke of Baku’s World Expo candidacy in terms of demonstrating solidarity in addressing the key problems of developing countries, especially African countries.  Mr Abdullayev added that the country's World Expo 2025 theme is closely linked with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing as it does on developing human capital.

Ambassador Elnur Sultanov, Secretary-General of the National Commission for UNESCO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, gave a presentation about Baju’s candidacy, highlighting the theme "Developing Human Capital, Building a Better Future". Azerbaijan’s status as a developing country was discussed, along with the fact that if Baku succeeds in winning the vote to host the World Expo, this will be a positive development for developing countries, including African countries.
