United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan welcomes Baku’s bid

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Ghulam Isaczai, has welcomed the country’s bid to host World Expo 2025 in an interview with Expo 2025 Baku.

During the interview Isaczai spoke about the great success that Azerbaijan had in meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), for which the country received the South-South award. He also spoke of the United Nations being “very impressed” with Azerbaijan’s commitment to achieve the organisation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Isaczai believes that Expo 2025 Baku’s theme of ‘Developing Human Capital, Building A Better Future’ is essential to the fulfilment of the SDGs. He welcomed Azerbaijan’s bid to host World Expo 2025 and its commitment to human capital development: “I would welcome Baku being given the opportunity to host this major international event and to present a theme that is of global importance. If World Expo 2025 is hosted in Baku, this would be an exciting achievement for a young, educated and entrepreneurial country – and an inspiration to developing nations across the world”.
