World Expo 2025 Baku applauds Global Citizen Festival

With a core message of ‘Be the Generation to Take Action’, the Global Citizen Festival brought to a close the biggest ever Global Goals Week last night in Central Park, New York City.

Hosted by Deborra-Lee Furness and Hugh Jackman, with guest acts including Janet Jackson and The Weekend, its aim was very serious: to promote the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

World Expo 2025 Baku, likewise, aims to put the UN SDGs in the spotlight with a bid that continues to be powered by youth from around the world. At the heart of Baku’s Bid is the theme of Developing Human Capital, Building a Better Future and its sub-themes concerned with health, education and employment serve to support key SDGs.

Azerbaijan, as a responsible global citizen, is wholly committed to the implementation of Global Goals. In 2015 Azerbaijan was the recipient of the South-South Award for its outstanding achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, which the SDGs are now building on. And in 2025, should the World Expo take place in our capital city, we will be just five years from the completion of internationally agreed targets, a crucial milestone in our efforts to invest in humanity and end poverty.
