It has been confirmed that The Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships and the Aerobic Gymnastics European Championships will both be held in Baku in 2019.

The Aerobic competition will be staged between May 23rd and 25th, the Rhythmic event between May 31st and June 2nd. Both events will be organised by the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation and staged at the National Gymnastics Arena which was used at the inaugural European Games in 2015 and at last year's Islamic Solidarity Games. It was also the venue for the European Championships in trampoline, double mini-trampoline and tumbling earlier this year.

Baku was recently awarded the 2021 Trampoline World Championships by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). And the city, increasingly popular with gymnastics events, will hold the FIG Congress at the end of this year.

These events add to Azerbaijan’s proven record of delivering large-scale international events, from the Eurovision Song Contest to the chess World Cup. Baku has also hosted Formula 1 since 2016. And the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which took place in April this year, has been overwhelmingly declared the best race of the season so far, based on more than 10,000 votes on the official Formula 1 Twitter account.
