World Expo 2025 Baku would be the first for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Caspian

The World Expo 2025 Baku Bid Committee have confirmed that a World Expo held in Baku would be a bid of many firsts.

If Baku hosts World Expo in 2025, it would not only be the first time that Azerbaijan is selected to host this prestigious event, but it would be the first time for the region. The UN categorises five regional geographic groups, but of those five groups, two have never hosted World Expo: Africa and Eastern Europe.

Azerbaijan is defined by the UN as part of the Eastern European group and was elected from this group to be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013 with the support of 155 countries. Azerbaijan is also a growing economic power in the Caucasus region and enjoys close ties with its neighbours.

A World Expo in Baku would be an opportunity to bring the event to the region and to share BIE values with new audiences and generations.
