Expo Faces: Faik Mammadov, Postgraduate Student of International Affairs

‘Expo Faces’ is a series of articles looking at the faces and voices of people across Azerbaijan who support Baku’s bid to host World Expo 2025. Today we hear from Faik Mammadov (21), a student of international affairs and leader of the Group of 25.

My name is Faik and I am currently doing my Masters degree in Diplomacy and International Affairs at ADA University in Baku. I also help to run national and European youth associations and am leader of the Group of 25 – a group of 25 young Azerbaijanis who represent the voice of all young people as we support Baku’s bid to host World Expo 2025.

For me, the importance of Baku’s candidacy is not just that it represents the priorities of our capital city or of Azerbaijan, but that this is an opportunity for all nations of the world to develop their most socially important spheres - such as education, employment and health - through our theme and sub-themes.

My greatest aspiration is to be of use for my country, and for my country to be able to lead in making a positive difference in the world. That is why I support Expo 2025 Baku and hope to promote the conversation about how we can develop human capital – for the benefit of everyone.

When I am not studying or talking about my hopes for a World Expo in Baku, you can find me playing piano, mountain climbing or reading about the life of Winston Churchill.
